Office move cleaning checklist: moving in and moving out

Office moves need two cleans: one at the old premises when you leave, and one at the new premises before your team arrives. Getting the timing right is most of the job.

Moving out

  • Book the clean after furniture, IT and waste have gone
  • Check the lease for specific handback cleaning obligations
  • Include kitchens, washrooms, carpets, hard floors and internal glass
  • Take dated photos of every room once finished

See end-of-lease cleaning and dilapidations for how this fits with the landlord's handback inspection.

Moving in

  • Book after any fit-out works and the builders' clean, but before furniture arrives
  • Clean inside cupboards, drawers and kitchen units
  • Clean and sanitise washrooms and kitchens
  • Vacuum or extract carpets and scrub hard floors
  • Clean internal glass and high-level surfaces where dust collects

After furniture is installed

A light clean after the furniture and IT are installed removes packaging dust and debris before your first day.

Set up the regular contract

A move is the right moment to write a fresh cleaning specification for the new building, so the regular clean starts on day one at the right frequency.
